This unsigned holster pistol appears to French in style. The pistol is stocked in European walnut and trimmed in steel furniture with bone sideplates. The iron furniture has aged to a dark brown patina. The round faced flintlock has been reconverted to flintlock with a modern cock assembly, pan, and frizzen. The octagon-to-round barrel has a silvery gray patina finish. The .55 caliber smoothbore 8-3/8" barrel has a wedding band 3-1/4" ahead of the breech with a taper and slight flare at the muzzle. The bore is dark with visible pitting. The barrel is fitted with both a front and a small rear sight on the tang. Most holster pistols, or belt pistols do not have sights since the pistol was designed to be used at close range.
The European walnut stock is finished to a reddish brown with a satin sheen. The slender grip gently tapers and flares into the lock panels. The thumbnail tang of the breech plug is accented with a panel of raised carving in a rococo style. The buttcap is neatly fitted with langetts up the wrist and mounted with a retainer. The triggerguard has a decorative front final and the bow is shaped with raised ridges along the edges. The ramrod pipes have a short pointed skirt and raised thumbnail finial. The tapered ramrod is fitted with a flared tip with no provisions for threaded accessories. We recommend one of our pistol loading rods, #PL-7-50 for use with this pistol. The well shaped side panel gives this pistol a slender appearance through the lock panels. The side panel has two bone sideplates finished flush.
Ignition for the gun is provided by a round faced flint lock reconverted to flintlock from percussion. The cock assembly, pan, frizzen, and frizzen spring are all modern replacements. Use our #Flint-Eng-5 hand knapped 5/8” English gun flints for best performance in this lock. A vent liner is well centered and positioned at the top edge of the pan to provide best ignition. The trigger is pinned high to provide good leverage against the sear.
