This Kentucky pistol is stocked in curly walnut with a warm brown tone. Neatly fitted, the brass furniture has a bright hand burnished appearance and nicely compliments the tone of the stock. The .40 caliber octagon barrel and L&R John Bailes percussion lock are finished to a dark brown. Hand assembled by contemporary builder J.A. Wymore. This pistol is offered as-new, unfired.
The 8" straight octagon barrel is finished to a dark brown. The mirror bright bore is cut rifled with six lands and grooves with a fast twist appropriate for a patched round ball. The barrel is fitted with a small iron blade front sight. The rear sight is dovetailed just ahead of the breech to maximize the sight radius. The breech end of the barrel is signed JAW 146 on left oblique flat near the breech. The breech end of the barrel is fitted with a straight tang with thumbnail finial. he tang bolt is neatly fitted with the slot aligned with the barrel. The lock panels correctly taper widest at the rear in early long gun fashion. The stock is shaped with graceful slender proportions and just wraps the barrel along the forend.
The grip is fitted with a brass buttcap, which is burnished bright. The triggerguard is mounted with brass screws on the grip rail and pinned in the front. The front of the triggerguard is shaped with a acorn finial. The bulbous ramrod pipes secure the tapered ramrod fitted with a flared brass loading tip. No threaded tips are installed to accept cleaning or loading accessories. We recommend our #RAMROD-C-12-10 to service this pistol. A brass muzzle cap is fitted to protect the end grain of the stock. The side panel is fitted with a Fleur de Lys shaped brass sideplate.
Ignition is provided by the L&R John Bailes percussion conversion lock, which would be typical of a earlier flint gun that was converted to percussion. The lock has been browned to match the barrel. Tuned for best performance, this lock has fast time and will provide reliable ignition. The drum is well supported by the lock plate, and is fitted with a 1/4-28 stainless steel nipple. The single trigger is shaped with a decorative back. The trigger is pinned high to provide good leverage against the sear producing a crisp trigger pull.
