This Hawken Rifle with walnut stock is fitted with a 33-1/2" straight octagon barrel. The L&R Lock, barrel, and furniture are all finished to a dark brown with normal wear from handling and use. The barrel is stamped Ingram on the top flat. This Hawken only weighs 9.3 pounds, with a trigger reach of 13-5/8 to fit today's average size shooter.

The 33-1/2" barrel is secured to the stock with two wedge keys and a hooked breech. The .58 caliber barrel is cut rifled with eight lands and grooves with a slow twist for a patched round ball. The bore is mostly bright but does have some light pitting behind the first six inches of the muzzle. A semi buckhorn rear sight is dovetailed 11-1/2" ahead of the breech. The front sight is a steel blade with an integral base.

The black walnut stock is fitted with a late Hawken buttplate. All of the furniture is iron with the exception of the forend cap. The inletting on the long tang of the hooked breech is fair with some gaps visible. The hooked breech and wedge keys allow the barrel to be dismounted for easy cleaning. When the barrel is dismounted the barrel channel has a milled ramrod channel that is visible the length of the forearm. The forend is fitted with a nickel silver forend cap. The long square toe is fitted with a traditional Hawken toeplate. The ramrod entry pipe and a forward ramrod pipes secure the ramrod. The ramrod is 7/16" diameter ramrod with a single brass tip with no threads for loading or cleaning accessories. The cheek piece has a convex shape, and has a molded edge along the border.

The rifle is fitted with a L&R Hawken lock. Polished inside, the well tempered parts include a strong mainspring, stirrup link, and a fly detent to allow set triggers. The R.E.Davis Ron Long designed double lever double set triggers are positioned far to the rear. They will allow firing with the front trigger, but it must be pulled to the end of the travel. The set trigger work excellent due the rear placement. Adjust the screw between the two triggers, inboard to reduce set trigger release pressure, our outboard to require a stronger pressure. The set trigger can provide very light release, for accurate aimed shooting during pleasant weather.

This rifle is used with some handling marks. The bore does have some light pitting in the first few inches behind the muzzle. Fit is fair with some cosmetic gaps. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
