This sleek flint Remington 1816 Commemorative longrifle is .50 caliber, with 39" octagon barrel, silver blade front sight, buckhorn rear sight, and brass furniture. Stocked in curly maple, with subtle but attractive tiger-stripe figure from muzzle to butt. Made for a tall man, the trigger reach is 14", to fit a 6' or taller shooter. These were said to be limited to 1000 rifles and this is rifle 353. Their is much conjecture as to if these rifles were made by the Remington Custom shop, contracted to Hatfield, or Pedersoli as the rifles share many similarities to products they offered and they may have indeed been sub-contractors. Trigger reach is 14" to fit today's average size shooter. Weight is 7.7 pounds.

The 39" octagon barrel is marked .50 cal and Remington on the top flat. The barrel is polished and finished chocolate brown. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. The breech end does have a few marks from the frizzen just touching the brown. The front sight is a nickel silver blade, with brass base. The rear sight is a percussion era buckhorn rear sight. The dovetail was peened along the rear edge to hold this sight, which is very common on these rifles. The rear sight is positioned 11" ahead of the breech, about 2" behind the balance point, in the location much preferred by older shooters with corrective lenses.

The curly maple stock is stained to a dark brown with a golden undertone. The stock does have a few handling marks. The buttstock is fitted with a deep crescent buttplate in mid-to late 19th century style. The brass patchbox is mounted with brass screws and engraved with decorative scrolls. The door is a cam-over center design and the spring is no longer holding the door fully shut. The Lancaster County influenced brass triggerguard has a wide open bow for the double set triggers. The forend and forearm have small brass inlays. The ramrod pipes are mounted with screws to the bottom of the barrel, which is similar to Pedersoli Frontier rifles.

The large rifle size flat faced Ketland styled flint lock is browned to match the barrel. The frizzen does show normal marks from sparking, and the barrel does have a rub mark from the frizzen just touching the side. The flint cock does have a small amount of play on the tumbler shank. Ignition is aided by the stainless steel vent liner, perfectly centered and correctly positioned well above the pan, to serve as a window on the center of the priming flash. Double lever double set triggers are correctly tuned to fire set or unset. You may cock the lock, or set the triggers, in any sequence. A tiny adjustment screw, between the two triggers, controls trigger release in the set position.

Used with some marks on the stock and barrel finish. The bore is bright and has been well maintained. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted. Else if it does not fit you, return it in unfired condition for same-day refund. Postage is your only risk, when you order any one-of-a-kind gun from Track, whether new, used, or antique.
