Our new brass .577 Snider cartridge is designed for use in Snider Enfield Mark I, II, and III muskets. The .577 Snider cartridge existed long before SAAMI standards, so bore diameter and chamber dimensions of antique guns may vary.
This unprimed brass case uses a large rifle primer. The case has a overall length of 2.0", mouth outer diameter of 0.630", head diameter of 0.662", rim thickness of 0.050", rim diameter of .0.74", inner diameter 0.600".
Load round ball loads without special tools, if these empty cases will slide into your chamber, unsized.
Press the case over a large rifle primer, using a dowel to seat the case over the primer on a hard flat surface.
Charge the case with 75 grains of GOEx FFg black powder, using our #M-075 brass measure and #POWDER-CAP-B pouring spout.
Insert our #WAD-24-A card wad over the powder. Insert a small amout of #LUBE-SPG over the card. Sometimes called a "grease cookie", use a piece of lubricant about the size of a pea.
Seat the #BALL-600-X using your thumb, and it is ready to shoot. An optional drop of candle wax can seal the ball to the rim of the case, if desired.
To load a Minie bullet (most rifles benefit from the .585" oversize version), use the #LEE-DIE-577-SNIDER loading dies and shellholder in the #LEE-90998 Cast Classic press, an RCBS Ammo Master press, or any press threaded 1-1/4 x 12 to reload the .50 BMG case. A standard 7/8-14 adaptor is provided for standard dies.
We enjoy shooting our antique Snider Enfield rifles, now that we make these nice cases, that should last for many reloadings, if rinsed clean with hot tap water on the day they are fired.
