This new production all brass .577 Snider cartridge is designed for used with the Snider Enfield Mark I, II, and III muskets. The .577 Snider cartridge existed long before SAAMI standards and antique guns may vary on bore diameter and chamber dimensions.
This unprimed brass uses a large rifle primer. The case has a overall length of 2", mouth diameter of 0.63", head diameter of 0.662", rim thickness of 0.050", rim diameter of .0.74", inner diameter 0.600".
Load round ball loads without special tools, if these empty cases will slide into your chamber, unsized.
Press the case over a large rifle primer, using a dowel to seat the case over the primer on a hard flat surface.
Charge the case with 75 grains of GOEx FFg black powder, using our #M-075 brass measure and #POWDER-CAP-B pouring spout.
Insert our #WAD-24-A card wad over the powder. Insert a small amout of #LUBE-SPG over the card. Sometimes called a "grease cookie", use a piece of lubricant about the size of a pea.
Seat the #BALL-600-X using your thumb, and it is ready to shoot.
To load a Minie bullet (most rifles benefit from this oversize bullet), use the #LEE-DIE-577-SNIDER loading dies in the LEE Cast Classic press, or any press designed to reload the .50 BMG case. Threads are larger than standard 7/8-14 dies, so an adaptor is provided for those standard dies.
We enjoy shooting our antique Snider Enfield rifles, now that we make these nice cases, that should last for many reloadings, if washed the day they are fired.
