A jagged tip, called a cleaning jag, is the proper tool for wiping the bore. Use a wet or oily patch. Never use a dry patch. It may become stuck. Made of brass with female threads to attach to a military ramrod with male threads, such as the 1803 Harper Ferry Rifle.
