Siler's large right cap lock kit is pre-inlet into some of our most popular stocks. It is designed to fit any 13/16" to 1-1/8" barrel, with a 1/2" diameter powder drum.
Ideal for a percussion longrifle, this Germanic style lock has the long pointed tail, raised lock plate with chamfered edges, and filed moulding across the tail, styles used during the 1750 - 1780 flint lock era. Originally designed as a flint lock, many longrifles were converted to percussion during the 1825 - 1845 era.
If you enjoy tinkering with internal lock parts, you will discover that our Siler kit can be assembled into a fine lock. All holes in the plate are spotted. A drill guide is included to aid you in accurate alignment of parts. All springs are tempered. Our kits are complete with Siler's instructions for assembly and tempering in your home shop.
Assembly requires the skilled use of a drill press, vise, fractional drill bits in sizes 5/64", 7/64", 9/64", 11/64" and 15/64", a No. 19 drill bit, and 8-32 tap. We offer all these drill bits and taps.
Make an error during assembly? No problem. We stock all spare parts!
Do not cut the drum notch deeper, in an attempt to adapt this lock to fit a hooked breech's snail bolster, since this area of the lock plate supports the mainspring.
With care, you can build a highly tuned lock!
This lock is shown at exact-full-size, in Track's new catalog for gunmakers and gunsmiths.
